When you're waiting in the cold because your bus has been cancelled or you can't get a hospital appointment because of the Council budget cuts to frontline services, here's a thought to warm your heart: Although 1,600 jobs are set to be lost in Durham County Council and nearly £115 million will be slashed from its budget, the Council will impose no cuts or sackings on its Equality and Diversity (aka Getting Rid of White Heterosexual Males) department, which is projected to cost the County Durham taxpayers over £215,000 this year.
It's nice to know that during these times of severity and cutbacks that our council has its priorities in order.
